Yellowjackets drew me in immediately with its gripping concept, stunning cinematography, and 90's nostalgia. It just had a vibe that I could not shake. Inspired by its storytelling and visual depth, I set out to create an alternate version of the title sequence as for fun.
While the original sequence captured a raw, frenetic energy, I tried to explore additional layers within the show's themes: secrets, occultism, cannibalism, the "blood hive mind," teen drama, and the complex social hierarchies at play. The whole Lord of the Flies, but with teenage soccer girls. My goal was to weave these elements into a visually compelling narrative, using the title sequence as a canvas to foreshadow the eerie, intricate world of Yellowjackets.
The creative journey began with detailed mind-maps to flesh out key themes, followed by mood boards to establish tone and aesthetics. From there, I developed style frames and motion tests, iterating on ideas to achieve a balance between intrigue and theme.
These glimpses into my process demonstrate blending concept-driven design with cinematic storytelling.
